Reporting Bugs
The link to the FinkCommander Bug Tracker is provided below. If you have not already done so, please read the following guidelines before submitting a bug report.Guidelines
- You will need a SourceForge account to submit a bug report.
- Make sure your problem is not addressed in the FAQ.
- If the problem involves the failure to complete a fink or apt-get
command, try running the command in Terminal. Then:
- If the command is successful in Terminal but not in FinkCommander, report that fact on the FinkCommander Bug Tracker.
- If the command fails in the Terminal as well, then the problem is with your fink installation, not FinkCommander. Go to the Fink help page for guidance.
- Make sure you have the latest version of FinkCommander. As of version 0.3.2 there is a command to check for the latest version under the FinkCommander menu.
- If FinkCommander is not crashing but is failing to behave as expected, open the Console application (in /Applications/Utilities), copy any log messages relating to FinkCommander and paste them into your report or a separate attachment.
- If FinkCommander is crashing (quitting without warning), provide the file ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/FinkCommander.crash.log as well as the Console logs with your report.
- Provide as much detail about the circumstances that caused the problem as you can, including the version of Mac OS X and the Developer Tools that you are using.
- Consider learning enough about Cocoa and the Project Builder debugger to debug the problem yourself. It's fun and would be a great way to contribute to open source software. If you're interested in giving this a try, say so in your bug report, and we will give you some pointers.
